How I Install Sitemap Onto Blogspot

How I Install Sitemap Onto Blogspot: "
Franky speaking, i am no internet expert, let alone any formal tuition on blogging. But having 'played around" with Blogger for almost 3 years; i have sort of transformed myself into the kind of " Dare to Fail " fella that i'd rather risked getting into trouble than feeling suspense to doubts unanswered.

Today i suddenly got the urge and wonder how i could install my sitemap from my Google Webmaster tools onto this blog; i first began by understanding more about sitemap or sitemaps:-

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sitemap or Sitemaps protocol allows a webmaster to inform search engines about URLs on a website that are available for crawling. A Sitemap is an XML file that lists the URLs for a site. It allows webmasters to include additional information about each URL: when it was last updated, how often it changes, and how important it is in relation to other URLs in the site. This allows search engines to crawl the site more intelligently. Sitemaps are a URL inclusion protocol and complement robots.txt, a URL exclusion protocol.

My conclusion: sitemaps are something useful, essential and beneficial to blogger although technically i knew nuts! so funny!

Next i go to my Google Webmaster tools and click on the desired blog link. On Site Configuration at the top left corner, skip Sitemaps and go to Crawler access located just below it. Slightly towards the middle section of the said page is where we could locate our sitemap:-

User-agent: Mediapartners-Google
Disallow:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /search
Sitemap: http://xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?orderby=updated
Many a time when we were asked to submit a sitemap, here is one of the easiest location we could copy it or when we blog with Blogger / Blogspot, sitemaps are by default feeds/posts/default?orderby=updated and get it verified.

Next i tried to install the said sitemap onto this blog and go Design > Edit HTML somewhere before and after the section but this sitemap became visible to visitors of my blog which is not cool at all.

Henceforth, i make a bold move and decided that i either post the sitemap as a New Post or allocate a New Page to install the sitemap.

  • Sadly the former of a new post also resulted that my sitemap became visible.
  • However, i'd discovered that when a new page being created to install the sitemap, it could be 'made invisible' to viewers which is what i want; don't you?
Heres is how it was done:-
  • Click New Post (top right) > Edit Pages > NEW PAGE, on page title simply write sitemap
  • Copy and paste the said sitemap http://xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?orderby=updated from Webmaster tool as page content.
  • Link the sitemap and PUBLISH POST.
  • To made your sitemap 'invisible' - on your Home Page click Edit Page located at the far right of the Page Tab. It looks something like this:-

Title (optional)

Automatically add new pages when they are published
Pages to show
  • site maps
  • Set Up A Blog
  • Positioning
Page order
  • Positioning
  • Blog
  • Set Up A Blog
Drag and drop to change
Do not click sitemap; leave it blank and SAVE You are done!

To test and see your sitemap XML file, go back to your Home Page > New Post > Edit Pages; on the site maps page click View and click the sitemap link; here you should see it......

This is my report ....
