NEW DELHI, Oct 1 — India’s Congress-led government has officially buried a two-decade-old corruption case against an Italian businessman who allegedly received kickbacks from New Delhi’s purchase of Swedish-made howitzers for the army.
Some analysts think this is good news for India’s US$30 billion (RM105 billion) weapons acquisition programme, which has suffered delays because the scandal has made people in key slots fearful of taking decisions on weapons purchases.
Decisions are pending on a host of purchases, from the latest fighter jets from the United States to Pegasus howitzers manufactured in Singapore.
