MeeMix, music site that's similar to Pandora in concept, operates by letting users create custom stations based on their preferences. Unlike Pandora, however, these stations are shareable and can be broadcast to friends within the MeeMix network.
As of now, MeeMix also gives artists a chance to customize their personal MeeMix page
There are also a few preference features on MeeMix that differ from most other music sites in this arena.
MeeMix allows you to note in two different ways how you feel about a song: instead of a mere positive or negative (thumbs up or thumbs down) vote, there's a slider that lets you indicate on a scale ranging from -6 to +6 how much you like a song. Additionally, you can add a song to your favorites, block that song or the artist, and favorite other songs from the current album. Other filtering options let you hear recommended music based on your mood (light or dark), the pulse of the music, or the degree to which you'd like to be surprised. All of these filter options are also on sliding scales.
There are also three different viewing modes for your station, which include audio, video and game (think pop culture quizzes). Additionally, there are also a number of social aspects to MeeMix which are somewhat similar to last.fm. Directly from the music player you can view comments for a the current track, see other fans for the current artist, and more. Given the number of features included in the player, I was surprised to see that this doesn't appear to be a shareable widget.
MeeMix is actually a marketing platform for artists that would like some direct interaction with fans and some reporting data as feedback as well. So towards that end, I think the player station widget with all its functionality would be a great interactive tool that allows artists to be promoted across social networks and websites. There are a handful of widgets that MeeMix provides to its artists too, which allow site visitors to vote on their music, reveal their stats, show their fans, and more. In all, I enjoyed using the MeeMix service.
